Last year (2005) when the first time I came to China, my plan was to see 2 things, Great Wall and Panda. Last year I only could manage to see Great Wall.
This year (2006) I got another chance to finish my mission, to see Panda,. I got another project in China. I was located in Zhuhai, you can see the gallery of Zhuhai in my Gallery.
After searching the information about this Panda, actually the initial plan was to go to Chengdu. But still can not get the best time to go there. In Chengdu you can see Panda in their habitats.
This time because only limited time I had, I went to Shenzen, From Zhuhai, is about 2 hour bus journey. The information that I got from internet, mentioned that in Shenzen zoological garden (Shenzen Safary Park) have 1 big panda, but that information is in year 2000, no updated news about that until 2006.
I started my journey 8 am by bus from Zhuhai to Baoan Station (Shenzen). I can not speak Chinese, so I must prepare the Chinese writing about the place name. Thanks to my friend Sundy Yang that help me to write the Chinese name for the zoo and the bus. The fee is 70 RMB. It took about 2 hours to Shenzen. Arrived at the station, I took a taxi, give the Chinese name of the zoo to the driver, about 40 minutes driving, cost about 40 RMB, arrived at the zoo. Better use the taxi, cause the bus is not safe here, many money pocket.
Because I only have limited time, I tried to have lunch first, ordered the fried rice in the out site restaurant, but not nice. I recommend that go inside the zoo, have some instant noodle is better.
I went to the locket, paid the ticket 100 RMB. The ticket is included the journey with the bus to the fierce animal (tiger, bear). Then I also asked the zoo map when I entered the gate, don?t forget to grab the map.
First, I tried to rush to see all animal, not paid attention, just look if I can get some good moment. My point interest was the Panda. When I saw the map, the panda location is really near the end of the zoo. So I just walked around until the Panda location, even in my heart still have some thinking that the Panda is not any more in this zoo. In the first time I decided to go here also actually gambling, because my Chinese friend in the office said, that the panda is not there anymore, and if there maybe the Panda will sleep or put in the cage and also dirty, not really maintained.
I just tried to get the location then I felt worried, because in the location was not many people there. Then I tried to go in, then finally I saw the Panda, maybe the name is San-San (information from internet), about 30 years old Panda, he was sitting and watching us in the garden.
Lucky, yes very lucky, maybe beginner luck for me. The first time for me to see this animal. I could see him playing, contact eyes with me. But I also felt sad, cause only him alone. I can felt the loneliness here. But I hope San-San can able to live there. I really hope also for the people visiting this place, not throw something inside the garden, not in this Panda location, also not in all location.
The Shenzen Safari Park is nice, some of the animal feel comfortable, actually the bear and tiger, Tigers quite a lot in this Zoo. The entrance?s fee quite expensive, but it?s okay because it?s expensive to maintain this place.
The one that I really miss in this zoo is the bird singing, the bird is not free, put in the cage, maybe because of the bird flu.
Finally I can saw the Panda, and really happy cause San-San is not sleep and not dirty, cause after finish the trip, I went back to the Panda location again, I saw him already sleeping.
I really recommend this Safari Park to be visited, and if I still have chance I will go there again.
