Langkawi Island is located just off the coast of North Western Malaysia, about 30 km from Kuala Perlis and 51 km from Kuala Kedah and close to Thailand.
I was here 2 times, first time in year 2005. That time only 1 day trip. Quite tight schedule and also not enjoy the trip. I suggest for take about 2 or 3 days at least stay over night in this Island. Especially if like nature, please come here.
Second trip was on February 2007. I decided to go there to take more photos about Eagles and also the beaches.
I went there by Ferry, from Penang. You can go to the Jetty terminal then start from there. The Ferry start 8.00 am in the morning, the fare is about 95 RM (return). The journey of take about 2 hours and 45 minutes. Here is the information you can call: Langkawi Ferry Services Sdn Bhd

I stayed at Langkasuka Beach Hotel, really nice hotel and reasonable price, I can say it cheap also, twins sharing bed room with big bathroom also have bathtub and got AC, got TV, also have breakfast the price is 120-150 RM per night. And the food also delicious here and price is okay not expensive.
The hotel view is really nice, next to the beach, have the swimming pool also, and I can say the beach is private beach, so really can enjoy there.

First day I went to the bird park, quite ok, but not recommended, then went to to Langkawi Sea World, also not really recommended. After that in the evening I was enjoy seeing sunset in the beach.
The second day, I book the tour, join the Island hoping tour, I recommend to join this tour, we will see the eagle feeding and also stop by the island (2 island) enjoying the scenery there. The eagle feeding really nice, cause the eagle is nature eagle but they use to it to follow the boats cause of the feeding program, they know already that this time is feeding time. Then you will see many eagles flying and catching the food that the boat men throw it.
There?s still many nature places in Langkawi, but I haven?t got time to explore, have waterfalls, paddies fields, islands around 99 small island, the mangroves.
